Legacy starts long a few generations after Luke Skywalker, with the descendants of the Skywalker and Solo clan. The galaxy is led by a triumvirate of the Galactic Alliance, the Fel Empire and the Jedi. But some decisions the Jedi made are controversial. A new Sith has arisen, and they take advantage to create division.
The attack on Ossus and decimation of the Jedi has orphaned Cade Skywalker, separated him from other survivors. He is forging his own path in the galaxy, rescued by pirates who have no idea who and what he is.
Cade has become a bounty hunter, and when he crosses the line and sells a Jedi to the Sith, the force and his family legacy will challenge him. He can fall to the dark side, or return to the Jedi but it will not leave him alone.. Darth Krayt, leader of the One Sith, wants his power to cure him of a Yuuzhan Vong induced illness. This power, when used, tends to take Cade to the dark side. And Cade is reckless, guilt stricken and has crossed lines he should not have.
The fate of the galaxy may depend on Cade Skywalker accepting the legacy he had abandoned.

Legacy Review
I had no idea what to make of Cade at first glance. Luke Skywalker was a farm boy who stayed true and positive through it all. Anakin had big dreams, but he felled for fear of losing those he loved. Cade Skywalker, being a pirate, struck me as the opposite of either. He lacked the sass of Ben Skywalker, had a very hard edge and just seems apathetic to anyone’s suffering but his own.
Legacy though, does take him on an interesting journey. In truth, you might say Cade is ‘deconstructed’ but this is only the start of the tale, by the end, he is reconstructed. Broken, but eventually made whole.
Cade has an ability Anakin Skywalker literally murdered for is an interesting twist. And it isn’t like he has no redeeming qualities: he does care, it was his intense pain at such loss from boyhood that has led to how apathetic and scarred within he his now. His story isn’t just rising to be a hero, its recovering from terrible loss, terrible choices and addiction to finally becoming who he was meant to be. The more you see how he became this way, the more I root for him to overcome it.
I loved the idea of the Imperial Knights that Legacy introduces, and the checks on supporting the Emperor only as long as he didn’t fall to the Dark Side. They aren’t the same as the Jedi, but nor are they Sith. They have far more in common with the Jedi and are more like rivals. It’s a shame we didn’t get to their origins, although its clearly something to do with Jaina and Jagged Fel’s marriage, or their offspring.
I am sorry at what was left out when it was cut off: I’d love to have read more on his Nat ‘Bantha’ Skywalker. I also would have loved to know about where the family tree is: the gaps between the last book of the Expanded Universe (Crucible) in the timeline, were cut off before anything could be established. That said I am just as glad at what was not referenced: Legacy of the Force isn’t referenced at all. It was being written at pretty much the same time.
Also, the Hondo Karr and Joker story feels like an interesting direction tested but that was left unexplored.
The twist of who Darth Krayt was actually disappointed me. The shock factor is probably what they wanted, but I had higher hopes for a character who has appeared in other stories.
