Leia grew up the Princess of Alderaan. She preferred being more rough and tumble than a traditional regal Princess. She was strong willed and trained to resist interrogation. In spite of her planet’s pacifist stance, she was taught self defense techniques.
Leia had no idea that her biological parents were as famous as her adoptive ones. It was a great shock to discover that not only did she have a twin, but her mother was a childhood hero, Padmé Amidala. No shock could’ve been greater than finding out who her father was, the great Jedi hero Anakin Skywalker, turned her worst enemy, Darth Vader.
Family:
Anakin Skywalker is her biological father. Due to his fall to the Dark Side and becoming Darth Vader, he missed out on discovering he had not one child, but two and both survived. Her birth mother, Padme died when she was born. Her twin brother Luke was separated from her and sent to the Lars on Tatooine.
She had relatives on Naboo that she knew nothing of until many years later. Pooja, her cousin, was a senator when she found out.
She herself was adopted by Bail Prestor Organa and his wife, Breha. She was raised the Princess of Alderaan. She had at least three aunts on her father’s side and at least one on her mother’s.
She married Han Solo and they had three children, Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin. She then took Han’s name and became Leia Organa Solo.
Friends
Luke Skywalker became one of her best friends before she even knew he was her brother. Han Solo, for all his scoundrel ways proved incredibly loyal to him in particular up. When Han was taken by Boba Fett, Chewbacca transferred his life debt attention to her. Lando also became a consistent friend in spite of the rocky start. Growing up she had friends like Winter, who was often mistaken for the Princess due to her regal bearing and Raal Panteer.
Challenges and Accomplishments
Leia Organa was well cared for as a little girl and the greatest challenges as a young child she knew nothing of. One day she saved a nanny from an accident, in a way that caught the attention of the Empire’s Jedi hunters. But they were foiled by the intervention of a former padawan and Jedi who had been taken into the confidence of both Bail and Obi-Wan.
Leia didn’t much care for that man as she grew up, little knowing that he wasn’t just some low level bureaucrat, but a Jedi in hiding. As a young lady, she often had to fend off her aunt’s attempts to marry her off. While she did have friends, such as the Panteer her life was largely consumed with duty. She was the youngest Senator ever elected to the post, and secretly involved with the Rebellion.
Princess Leia Organa faces many trials not only during her time with the Rebellion, but also afterward. She was captured and interrogated by Darth Vader himself. Neither were aware of their relationship. Losing her family as well as her home planet was a pain that would stay with her for her whole life. She knew logically it was not her fault. But feelings care little for logic. The first personal challenge is dealing with her discovery that Luke Skywalker is her brother and Darth Vader AKA Anakin Skywalker is her biological Father.
Adopted and raised by a prominent politician like Bail Organa of Alderaan, her skills led to her being both a leader of the Rebel Alliance and a chief architect of the New Republic. This led to unusual challenges, such as suitors wanting to marry her for political alliance, rather than love, as well as her allies trying to arrange such marriages. Due to her duties to the Alliance, she seriously considered this but ultimately marries Han Solo.
Given the discovery of who her Father is, Leia Organa, now Leia Organa Solo is reluctant (if not outright afraid) to use her birthright of Force sensitivity and Jedi potential. It was much easier when Darth Vader was a faceless monster. Finding out that a real man with hopes, dreams and loves that wanted to help people had fallen so far rattled her thinking. It made her hesitate to have children as she considered the concern that if it happened to him, it might happen to them. Indeed, they were targeted by kidnappers repeatedly over their ancestry.
This fear she eventually overcomes, and she has three, Jacen and Jaina (twins) and young Anakin, who she named, in part, to redeem her Father’s name and remind herself that great evil can be redeemed for good.
Leia Organa and her Career:
Leia was the youngest Senator of the Republic. She was secretly a member of the Rebel Alliance. While officially called Princess both before and after Alderaan’s destruction, she also officially held the rank of General. (Since Senator Bel Iblis also had this rank, it is theoretically possible the Alliance grants this rank to any Allied Senator.)
High points of Leia’s career include her becoming Chief of State of the New Republic for several decades. She took a temporary hiatus from this, right before and up to a peace treaty was reached with the remnants of the Empire.. She was also a fully trained Jedi, though her progress had been slow due to her other duties.
